![]() It is feared a GREEN TAX to be paid by gas suppliers could lead to a hike in household bills. The Green Gas Levy is designed to help fund the use of a greener fuel called biomethane. But the tax, which will be paid by suppliers, is likely to be passed on to households and drive up the average annual family bill by around £5 by 2025. The levy is one of several measures introduced to ensure the UK meets its net zero target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Industry experts branded the levy as the ‘opening shot on the war on gas’. They also expect more radical measures, including a ban on gas boiler installations, in the next decade. Details of the levy, which is expected to be enforced from Autumn 2021, are still being consulted on. |
